Ride diaries

Six people, six winters

Not a star average. Six riders who have had the bike long enough for the novelty to wear off, and still ride it on a Tuesday in February.

The first frost was the test. Battery held 82 % at minus four, and I got to the office without the last hill turning into a negotiation.

Forty kilos of shopping and a toddler on the back, twice a week for two years. The rack has not creaked once.

Croix-Rousse used to decide which days I worked from home. Now it is just the bit before the office.

It has lived outside through two winters, no shed, no cover. One bearing went, replaced under warranty, back to me in a week.

Salt air eats everything here. Eighteen months on the coast road and the frame still looks like it did in the shop.

I ride home from the shop at eleven at night, in the dark, on gravel. The light is the reason I stopped taking the long way round.

Four days a week to work, in the rain, two winters in. The chain is the only thing I have replaced.

Before you decide

The things people ask us before they order

How far will it really go?

The range on the card is measured at 25 °C in the lowest assist mode. In winter, on hills, with a heavier rider, plan for 60–70% of it.

How long does delivery take?

Two to four working days to Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium; five to seven for the rest of the EU. It ships from Venlo, so there is no customs form and no import duty.

Does it arrive assembled?

85% assembled. You fit the front wheel, the handlebar and the pedals — about 20 minutes with the tools that are in the box.

Do I need a licence or insurance?

No. These are 25 km/h pedelecs, which EU law treats as bicycles: no plate, no licence, no insurance.

What happens if something breaks?

Two years on the frame, motor and battery. Spare parts ship from the same warehouse, so a failed controller does not mean sending the whole bike back.

Can I try one first?

Test rides run every Saturday in Venlo, and every order has 14 days to go back — ride it, and return it if it is the wrong bike.
